How did Malcolm X become such a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement?
Malcolm X was a renowned and extremely dynamic speaker he espoused self-reliance, activism, and equality. He had great charisma and passion in his voice which lifted the spirit of African American's during the movement.
Malcolm became such am eminent figure during the Civil Rights because of his firm stance on 'Black's' being integrated into society. Malcolm X was extremely renowned for his violent approach but he was also very well known for his inspiring speeches such as The Ballot or the Bullet and Message to the Grass Roots
An argument that has been forwarded following the death of Malcolm X was that the views and ideas that he was pushing forward were always going to be neglected and pushed aside by "white political power brokers in Washington" Which made the ideas of Martin Luther King Jr all the more acceptable and that this was a ploy that Malcolm was not only aware of but one he drove all along.
Malcolm Little changed his surname to 'X' in 1952. Malcolm changed his name following his release from prison and becoming a member of the NOI ( Nation of Islam). He changed his name as he believed "Little" was his ancestors slave name so changing it to "X" would therefore return his cultural heritage.
